It’s All Greek When It Comes to Grecian Online Gambling Now

Numerous online video gaming internet sites are using issue with Greece’s new obscure, complex and unfriendly Internet gambling laws for operators

The online gambling landscape in Greece is in a state of flux and that would be placing it too lightly. As Greece tries to transition into a system where players can enjoy online gambling only at a site that’s partially owned by the Greek government, they’ve also taken steps to block other sites from operating there. And even though its not all gambling that is major has fallen victim to the tactic, some are leaving preemptively rather that worry about exactly what the long run holds there.

Confusing Gambling Laws

Greek online gaming laws are notoriously difficult to parse, and seem to be designed to ensure a monopoly for the Greek Organization of Football Prognostics S.A. (called OPAP in Greece). The government owns 34% associated with firm, and OPAP holds a monopoly that is complete land-based casino gambling in the country. OPAP also has a virtual monopoly on online gambling until 2020 under Greek law, which states that only OPAP can offer many online gambling games.

Strangely enough, other companies can submit an application for and receive licenses for online gambling if they wish to do so. But, those licenses only allow them to supply ‘casino-type games of possibility, the outcome of that are not provided by a number that is random as in poker tournaments.’ Many commentators have remarked that this can be a strangely worded limitation, helping to make it difficult for operators to know what if any such thing they are able to allow players to relax and play under a Greek license.
