Tharros House

Our team provides support to ongoing clinical work as part of that process. At Tharros, we offer semi-private to fully private ensuite accommodation. Tharros House is a private peer program which is not affiliated with any state or federal offerings. Testimonials are available on our site, and we are happy to connect you with families and past clients who can share their experience with you. We take privacy seriously, and client information is not shared with any outside sources, except those affiliated with treatment, or which the client otherwise requests. Monthly fees at Tharros include food for all meals and snacks, transportation by our team in commercially insured SUVs, all activities, Tharros groups, and peer mentoring support.

He spent13 months in the Tharros community, giving him a unique ability to relate to theclients he works with. He worked as an actor and teacher in theBoston area before finding a passion for working with other recovering addicts andalcoholics. Inside of his work at Tharros House, he has found the empathicconnection and capacity for change he was always looking for in acting.

She has a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Loma Linda University and has been a licensed M.F.T since 1988. Teras, also located in Lexington MA, offers a less structured, but still supportive model of high standards sober living. Teras and Tharros are not affiliated with any clinical treatment (IOP/PHP, etc.) and our focus is on helping each client engage the best clinical support for their own circumstance. We have many local connections, including McLean Hospital, and we  help clients who don’t have clinical supports in place connect with appropriate resources. Tharros House, located steps away from the center of Lexington, spans 4 levels with almost 8000 square feet of living space.

Dr. Zarnegar has over 30 years of experience in behavioral health and clinical treatment. Dr. Zarnegar serves on the Advisory Board for Tharros House and helps to direct resource and team development. Her clinical insight also provides guidance for the development of client support services. Dr. Zarnegar brings a wealth of intuitive and insightful knowledge rooted from a quarter century of clinical experience.Dr. Zarengar received a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology, from California School of Professional Psychology and a Psy.D. In psychoanalysis, from the Institute of Contemporary Psychoanalysis.

More specifically, she offers didactic training and psychoeducation among the Tharros Team Members. She has hosted field experts in motivational interviewing (MI) to provide team member training and continuously seeks ways to provide education and support among the Tharros House team. Longtime consultant and salesperson for in-coming conferences to Boston, Donna has developed teams at Historic Museums and Venues, John F. Kennedy Library, Brandeis University, and many venerable and start-up businesses. If you have many outside commitments, or are ready to return to work, Teras can be a good entry point directly from treatment.

Our experience has been that once our clients arrive at Tharros House, they understand and feel the benefits. You are not locked in to any long term agreements, but we do ask that you come planning to stay for at least 60 days. Our team connects with each client’s clinical providers to help understand what supports are needed before he arrives at Tharros. At Tharros House, you can expect to meet other male residents who are committed to their sobriety, have completed some form of primary treatment, and pass regular unannounced breathalyzer and urine tests. Our community offers extensive structure, much of which is optional. Peer to peer support is an essential component of recovery and The Tharros House only accepts residents who have made a commitment to giving recovery a chance; we work together as a community to overcome the challenges in early recovery. At Teras, clients work with their on-site case manager and our vocational coach to develop a recovery fellowship and engage work. Clients of Teras may also be involved in outpatient treatment while they develop a foundation in their recovery work, and apply to work positions.

All client guest rooms at Tharros are equipped with queen sized Serta Presidential Euro-top premium mattresses and high thread count linens. A study of 300 individuals whom resided in Sober Living Homes (SLH) was published in 2010 by a division of the NIH (National Institute of Health) (Douglas L. Polcin, 2010). That study found that freestanding SLH’s offer enough structure, with no formal treatment, creating an optimal environment for residents ready for the next step. SLH’s provide an environment for individuals capable of handling a fair amount of autonomy and wish to take personal responsibility for their recovery. ​When you arrive at the house, you will undergo an initial discussion and orientation with the Program Director, including a dialogue on the past events that led you here. Together, we will start discussing what you want to achieve by engaging the support at Tharros. There are general rules of the house that everyone is required to follow.

However, experience has shown us, not every person with an addiction or alcoholism is the same. Our program isn’t cookie ­cutter; we want to get to know you and help ensure that you have what is necessary for you to achieve your goals. We help you see, what it is about you, you may have a hard time seeing. You are more likely to maintain long-term sobriety by entering and committing to a structured transitional living environment, like Tharros House. That’s why we encourage our clients to consider staying 6 months to one year. At Tharros House, we take a custom approach to each client, starting with a full understanding of each client’s needs and goals.

For others, after 1-6 months at Tharros, clients may choose to transition to Teras. Nick is a person in long term recovery through the program of Alcoholics Anonymous. He has maintained sobriety since March 5th, 2015, and is very active through the Young People in AA Fellowship. Nick grew up in Arlington, Massachusetts where tharros house he attended Arlington High School, playing varsity D1 Hockey and Lacrosse.

With 24/7 management and support, we can help you find an appropriate job, connect with the recovery community through volunteer opportunities and activities, find the right treatment resources, and build a foundation in sobriety. Our goal is to provide a safe and supportive community, combining individual and group interactions to facilitate building a meaningful life in sobriety. Successful long-term recovery is more than just abstinence from substances it’s a lifestyle change; replacing negative or unhealthy behaviors/patterns with positive coping skills, healthy routines, community and support. We believe life balance, structure, engagement, social interactions, positive perception and challenging old behaviors/beliefs are the key to a successful recovery.

Some treatment facilities provide care for 30, 60 or 90+ days. Tharros offers significantly more than a traditional sober living. We fit in between what you’d find at a clinical extended care program and very supportive recovery home. Each individual is supported to make his own choices in his recovery. Tharros offers an extensive and flexible peer support program to helps clients navigate important changes and decisions.

Nick earned a place on the First Team All Stars in both Junior and Senior years for Lacrosse. Early on in recovery, Nick began reconnecting with his passions of playing Hockey, and enjoying the outdoors. After spending much of his career in retail where he managed for Mobil, Circle K and Home Depot, Nick joined the Tharros Team in February of 2018, making the decision to follow his passion of helping men in recovery.

Teras Experience

Perhaps you have a connection with a therapist or life coach that you want to continue. We encourage you to keep what works and add resources where it will benefit your recovery. There are no referral fees and our vetted licensed professionals accept a variety of insurances. We have the sole goal of connecting you with the providers who will help you the most -­ Period. A sober living home creates fellowship and community that can help you get back to a life where you are happy and fulfilled.

After 30 days, clients are expected to be employed while they continue progress in their recovery work. They continue to meet with their case manager weekly and participate in community support activities. Darren originally joined the Tharros House team in 2015 after spending 2 years working in the Los Angeles recovery community. In his leadership role at Teras House, Darren interfaces with clients, families, and our support staff. Darren’s primary focus is to promote client development of recovery skills that will serve their long-term sobriety. Darren holds a BA from Stonehill College and was most recently the Assistant Director at Tharros House.
